“Kamal and Nacira are the most thoughtful and gracious hosts providing us all we needed during our stay. We are regular Airbnb travelers and would rate their place as one of the nicest, best located, and real value of all the places we have stayed. The place was very clean, modern (especially for Ecuador), had everything we needed. The beds were super comfy and clean. We also felt very safe which is a big bonus in Ecuador. Kamal invested lots of years, time and hard work with great taste to create this corner of heaven, oasis which is more than a vacation place, we can easily call it a wellness retreat where your tired soul and body can regenerate. Secluded botanical garden, surrounded with mountains, evergreen forest and amazing colorful flowers. Waking up to a mesmerizing view, hearing hundreds of birds singing and seeing butterflies mating. The cherry in the top is Kamal and Nacira, they radiate friendship, positive vibes to make your day even better. Highly recommend.”
Irene G. (USA) on June 2023 (5 guests):
“Words can´t describe what a paradise this place is. If you travel to Ecuador, this is a MUST. If you live in Ecuador, you CAN NOT miss this. The hosts are the kindest most welcoming owners I´ve ever met in Airbnb. Waking up to the birds and the view was a fantastic experience. Walking with the family through the trails, going down to the beautiful river, and swimming in it with a jungle backdrop was breathtaking. It was the perfect combination of being secluded and safe surrounded by the amazing forest and its wonders. Wish we stayed there longer. We will definitely be coming back. Thank you for having us!”

“Kamal and Nacira,
Susan and I enjoyed and enjoyed Ecollata and all you did to make us feel welcome. What you have done creates a completley tranquil experience, complete with rivers, jungle, luscious plantings, trails, and the beautiful house with magnificent 360° views . The large variety of birds, ever-changing skyscapes, quietness and natural beauty are far beyond our expectations. The cooking lesson with Nacira, pizza night, and good conversations are things we won't forget. We hope to see you soon! Warm wishes and heartfelt thanks to both of you, Susan and Tom”

The house is located at the top of a mountain with a gorgeous views of the mountains around and the river. If you want to relax and change the day a day routine, this is the place to be. I will definitely stay in Kamal’s property again.”

“To say that our stay exceeded our expectations would be a massive understatement. This was one of our favorite airbnb stays ever and the only reason we are rating it five stars is because we can't rate it 100!
Ecollacta is situated in a simply heavenly location and is rich with breathtaking views, abundant bird life and soul-calming tranquility. Part of the experience is the scenic drive up the rustic road to this classic mountaintop haven. The minute you step foot on the property you know you've landed in a special place.
The house is cleverly designed with wall-to-wall windows providing a bright, cheerful interior and showcase the beautiful landscapes and colorful flowers that are meticulously planted throughout the property. The home was spotless and perfect for our family. The added treat of a real indoor fireplace was just another of many offerings in this place of pure contentment. The kitchen was well equipped and the sleeping arrangements comfortable and offered peaceful nights of wonderful slumber.
Nacira and Kamal are the epitome of Super Hosts. They could write a book on how to manage a property. They were responsive to our every need and very, very well organized from our initial booking until the moment we left. We were treated with kindness and respect and their efforts made our time at Ecollacta one of the best family holidays we have ever enjoyed. We truly felt welcome and at home from start to finish.
Adding to the hosting team effort was Beli, the chef and artist who pampered us with excellent meals. Her cooking expertise and sweet personality added yet another level to the experience of this very special property and comes at a very reasonable price.
Our sincere thanks to Eric, Nacira, Kamal and Beli. We will remember and cherish our family time at Ecollacta for years to come.
Needless to say, but we'll say it anyway: If you're looking for a sublime getaway, organized by a very special team who strives to ensure your comfort and satisfaction, this is the place for you.”
Fernando S. (USA) on August 2022 (9 guests):

Molly R. (USA) on March 2022 (5 guests):
“After having stayed in probably a couple hundred airbnbs over the years, I have to say that this is definitely top of the list. Eric’s parents live a short drive down the driveway and literally cannot do enough for you. They are there no matter what you need and always happy to help. Best hosts ever!! Alba, the nice lady who lives a 20 minute walk from the house on the farm, is super sweet and gave me a true vacation by coming by every other day for a few hours to clean, do the laundry and cook us some dinner. Helped save us adventures to town looking for groceries, too! The house itself is incredible. The most beautiful views ever (and we’ve been to a lot of beautiful places), and probably the nicest views anywhere in the entire area. Beautiful walk to the river, awesome birds, gorgeous places to sit and feel the breeze or watch the thunderstorms. There were days we decided to stay and explore the many acres of the property rather than drive to town or anywhere else. Helpful things to know for future guests: Definitely get a 4x4 if you can… it’ll be helpful in case it rains, and in lots of places you’ll be glad you had one (even the driveway on the way up to the house). A 2x4 SUV might be ok if it’s very dry time of year. It is about a 20 minute drive from the paved road up to the house on an off-road track. Totally fine and safe, but we were really glad to have a 4x4 truck. For Americans: If you don’t speak fluent Spanish, download the offline version of Spanish on google translate. The folks there seem to have heard Americans so infrequently that even the American accent in basic Spanish is hard for them to understand. That’s basically all of Ecuador, not just this area. Nanegalito has a working ATM on the main road - and nowhere takes cards so bring lots of cash and find that ATM asap. There are some little stores that have basic groceries, as the listing says, but DEFINITELY take the advice and stop at Santa Maria grocery store in Mitad del Mundo on the way up toward Nanegalito. Definitely plan a walking/hiking/bird watching/breakfast/lunch day up at Maquipucuna nearby. You could walk there in 45 minutes or drive there in an hour. Yes, that’s weird, but true. Breathtaking place and Isabelle, the person who runs it, is amazing. The food is fantastic, too. If you go out to Nanegalito and turn left on the main road and drive 5 minutes, there’s a restaurant on the left (starts with an M on google maps) that’s really good, has great hummingbird feeders and a little walk to the river behind it. Gorgeous place. And if you go to the right on the main road about 8 minutes you’ll see a sign for a coffee shop on the left. Finca something. Also amazing. Beautiful views, hammocks, food… just perfect. Playground for the kids, too. Mindo was okay, but lots of great restaurants there. We tried to avoid driving that far if we could. Especially in the rainy season when landslides might block your way back to the house for little while. Otherwise it takes about an hour to get there from the house. We loved exploring the area from here and miss the atmosphere already! Thank you again Eric, Kamal and Nacira!”

"The stay at Ecollacta is perfect for a family trip very close to Quito, the house has everything you need and the surroundings are perfect for walks. At the river you can even have a picnic and enjoy the diversity of animals, butterflies, toucans, squirrels, hummingbirds and many more. The attention of Eric and his parents is very good, always attentive to any need."

“We had a wonderful time at Ecollacta. It is so close to Quito, yet it feels so distant. The hospitality from Eric and his parents was outstanding. Everything was very clean and the home was super comfortable. Waking up to mesmerizing views, surrounded by a beautiful garden, and dozens of birds felt like a dream. The internet signal was exceptionally good, we were able to work, take video calls, and even watch Netflix without interruptions. We will certainly be coming back”

“Fantastic views, great accomodation, beautiful rivers, and helpful hosts: Ecollacta is a really special place. “If you are considering staying here, I can assure you, it is entirely worth going a little bit out of your way for. It's remoteness makes it one of the most peaceful and beautiful places I have stayed. The only sounds being from the river below you and the birds all around you. The directions that Eric provides are spot on and we did not get lost when travelling from Quito. When we arrived, we were greeted by Eric's parents who ended up being the sweetest and most caring people, and their two lovable dogs. They welcomed us into their home and shared banana bread/cake, beer, wine, mini toasts and pate with us after we first got settled in. Eric was out of town during our stay but still called in to check on us shortly after we arrived and we were able to speak to him over the phone, which was kind of him and very appreciated. They also left us with fresh lemon water in our fridge, and encouraged us to use their washing machine and oven if need be. (A hot plate is provided in your house). They have two separate rooms downstairs with different firmness of mattresses which my family also appreciated. Both rooms have incredible views and their own on-suite bathrooms. There is also a third communal bathroom on the main floor, as well as another bedroom upstairs. Kamal took time out of one of his days to take us on a 4 hour hike through the cloud forest, which included a trip to a waterfall and to an eco-lodge nearby for some lemonade/beer. When we had returned home his wife gave us freshly made caramelized bananas, which was exactly what we needed to refuel after the hike. It was perfect. Kamal also lent us his binoculars and telescope to view the birds during our stay. We were only here for 4 nights, not nearly long enough. You can easily spend all day on the massive porch enjoying the sounds and views. But there is also the draw of swimming at the nearby waterfall or in the creek. It was my family's favourite part of our whole Ecuador trip”

Steven M. (USA) on January 2019 (2 guests):
“3 weeks was not enough for Ecollacta! We chose the location because it was in the heart of one of the worlds premier bird watching eco-systems, the view looked great, the house interesting and hiking sounded varied. All our expectations were exceeded on these most important categories and on so many other aspects. We saw over sixty new bird species (professional birders have spotted 250 species on the property) and half were from our private veranda with a cup of fresh coffee in our hands. Our favorite form of bird watching. The view was ever changing form the veranda with alternating cloud forest mountain mists and bright sunshine every day. They kept switching back and forth without it getting too hot or cold which was exhilarating. We hiked or drove and hiked to little village one way, a funky small mountain eco-resort with restaurant another way, a large waterfall with swimming area in Nanegal. We hiked to a private swimming hole in mountain stream right on the property many times., a small manageable flow waterfall with private swimming under it just off the property without seeing another soul. Very convenient drives and short walks to see Cock of the Rock mating rituals (lek)-brilliant red, black and white classic birds of the Andes. An hour and half drive to the Milpe bird sanctuary with hiking and mating dances of the red capped manakins-only birds to make the call with rapid wing vibrations similar to crickets. Also next to Milpe is the Los Bancos Mirador Rio Blanco restaurant with great menu fabulous view of the mountain river valley far below and twenty species of birds viewed from your table with more at humming bird feeders on their mirador patio. We also took a full day trip to the world famous Otavalo Saturday market. Three weeks was just not enough. The house is hand crafted by the very talented owner and his local multi skilled employees. Much of the unique furniture was made on site with materials from the ranch as well as the coast and Quito. Hospitality was truly exceptional with help with daily itineraries, hiring guides, planning hikes, meeting us at the nearby town of Nanegalito the evening we arrived after dark in the rain and introducing us to the best shopkeepers for our first weeks groceries. The owners also took our shopping list with them when they went to Quito for specialty items and gave us all the organic bananas (some in the form of baked cake!) and lemons from their orchard we could eat or make into smoothies and lemonade. Bed was comfortable and the view from the bed was a cloud forest dream. Hot water was always hot. Windows were sparkling clean which made the outdoors come indoors, high windows with screens allowed cool breezes and bird sounds and the distant roar of the mountain river to come in as well. Soundproofing was excellent and shutting the windows was perfect for sleeping if that is your choice of the moment. Having your own 2 wheel or 4 wheel drive SUV was a must while we were there January 2019. The road is being improved constantly and is better in the summer months so checking with owner may find a sedan is ok for your visit. We had our own vehicle which gave us much flexibility on activities. Perhaps a taxi from Nanegalito or Nanegal could work but I would check with owners first. If you can, stay long enough to enjoy fully”
Ruth B. (UK) on December 2018 (4 guests):
“This was the most wonderful place to stay. Four of us had a gorgeous 5 days relaxing, bird watching, swimming in the waterfall and river, and enjoying the diverse plants and flowers around the house. The house is great quality, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Eric and family were around to help us find the house easily and make sure we could do everything we wanted to. They helped to organize a day’s guided bird watching at Maquipacuna reserve (walking distance from the house). The road to the house is passable without 4x4, but much better if you’re used to driving on rough terrain. If you would prefer, Eric and family can pick you up along the road or you can get a taxi from Nanegalito for only $12. We can’t recommend this place enough. We will be back!”

"This location is great! A beautiful landscape with plenty to explore directly accessible from the houses. Kamal and Eric were more than helpful with anything we could need, but also allow the privacy that you travel to a place like this to achieve. We would highly recommend these homes for anyone trying to get off of the beaten path. They are spectacular"

"I want to say that the site is wonderful, with a magnificent view of the protected forest, the sunsets are truly unequaled, the clouds go down to the valley offering a show that is rarely seen, we have observed many birds of different colors, red, blue, yellow, combined etc., The river that comes down from the forest brings water so clear and so pure that you can drink it, we even drink it and also swam in it. The houses are very big, very well made, very comfortable and with all the necessary equipment, rooms have very comfortable mattresses and immaculate bathrooms, we had an enjoyable stay and we are sure that in a short term we will return”

“We enjoyed sitting on the back porch watching the birds and enjoying the scenery. It was great getting to know our hosts who were a delight. The internet was better there than anywhere else we had been. Kamal set up a guide to take us birding around the property and it was the best! We saw so many birds with our guide Maurico and Kamal joined us on our outing.”

“A mountain paradise. Absolutely stunning house, surrounded by hundreds of hectares of mountainous green field and forest, and directly bordering the bio-luscious Maquipicuna Cloud Forest Reserve, which we hiked to for a half day of phenomenal birding. Bit of a wild ride in with recent rains, but Eric ably led us with his truck, and it was more than worth the plank bridge and each muddy dip and loopy bend in the road to get there. The owners were delightfully hospitable. All hail to their vision, perseverance and talent in creating this remarkable retreat”
Gerd J. (Germany) on February 2018 (4 guests):
"A dream! - A one-time investment, especially nice hosts. To get there when it rains you need for the last few kilometers SUV. The buildings are unique, very generous with terrific views all around over the cloud forest. Erik and Kamal lead to spectacular places and Nacera is a cook with a kitchen with all the subtleties of all the cuisines of the world, particularly France, Italy, Oriental, and Ecuador. Here I have to go back ....”

"Beautiful lodge in nature" - During my trip to Ecuador, I had the pleasure of discovering Ecollacta lodge. After Quito, the nature in this lodge was wonder. A 360 ° view of the surrounding forests, the songs of birds, walking, bathing in the waterfalls elements lift’s you up. In addition, the owners are charming and always at your disposal. A tip: do not hesitate to go to Ecollacta”

“Absolutely Beautiful Homes, Incredible Location, Awesome Family Owners!!! - In November, we booked both houses for our 9 person family, 3 adults and 6 kids 4-16 years of age. Eric and his Father met us at the entrance to the property and drove us the 20 minutes to the secluded and VERY Private homes. They were awesome!!! 360 degree views, lots of giant glass windows, hammocks and chairs and benches everywhere to sit and relax in, the views all around the homes are spectacular and the wild birds and flowers surrounding the homes are awesome too!!!
We booked these homes for 3 nights and our intentions were to go into Mindo for a day or two but we changed our mind and just hung out and relaxed on site taking short and beautiful walks locally to the waterfall, stream/river, covered bridge, which allowed full swimming in beautiful clear water. The kids loved this place!!! Inside everything was clean and modern, of all the places we stayed in Ecuador, this was by far the nicest! Eric and his family were super helpful, they both live close by on the 200 acres, we felt super safe, and they were all very happy and willing to help in any way possible! They took us on walks, arranged for a drive into town, and even arranged for our kids to watch an elderly neighbor couple milk their cows just 5 minutes away from the main house! We cannot say enough about "Ecollacta"!!!! 5 Stars across the board! You will not regret and only 1.5 or so away from Quito!!!!"

If you need to escape, rest, and discover, this place is for you! The interior is clean, nicely decorated and meets all needs, you will feel at home.
In addition, the hosts are welcoming, charming and always available if needed. I highly recommend the visit, the scenery is worth the detour!!"

“Most breathtaking view!!!” - This property is by far one of my favorites in Ecuador. It enjoys beautiful panoramic views. The house is very tastefully decorated, clean and is very well kept. The area is surrounded with much wildlife and an abundance of bird species, which are not only beautiful to watch but very pleasant to listen to. Kamal (the property owner) has the ability to mimic some bird species sounds in order to call them in. We were able to experience this fist hand which added to our experience. We enjoyed going on a couple of beautiful scenic hikes around the property.
I recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a break in paradise.”

The house was very comfortable, spotless and perfect for the visit we had in mind. We were able to visit and hike the region, while enjoying nice and romantic dinners in the all-glass view on the dining room. Breakfast on the patio was truly magical!! We recommend this to anyone looking for a place to stay in the area! Unique and magical. Have fun :) and thank you again"

“Best Get-Away, True Peace and Quiet The Place to Yourself - We stayed in the 'smaller' guest house for an extended stay. It is huge. I have been visiting places in north-west Ecuador and Ecollacta is one of the best in terms of: comfort and space--the rooms, lounge area, balcony are truly spacious and immaculately kept; the owner Kamal gives the place a special touch: he came to the paved road to take us to the property which is up a long private track. His wife prepares incredible food, too. If you are a 'foodie', you will not be disappointed. The hot-water heaters for the showers and sinks were a nice touch. They had two very friendly, loved and well-behaved dogs. The views and tranquility are what I look for in a place, in addition to great birds in the garden, and this place was tops for all three. I highly recommend Ecollacta for its high-level of maintenance (beautifully kept gardens, immaculate house), friendliness of owner (Kamal is smart and helpful), and overall feel of safety and comfort while staying here"

The variety of birds that can be seen from the viewpoint where the house is located is incredible as well as the nature of the tropical forest in the area.
